HIV-immunity via gene modification?

Researchers from the Guangzhou Medical University published research that could revolutionise the battle against HIV/AIDS. They recently modified a gene in embryos, in an attempt to make humans immune to the most common strain of the HIV virus. This is the second time Chinese researchers reports on gene editing in human Read more…

EAST- Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak - Chinese Nuclear Fusion Power Project

China one step closer to fusion power

Generating electricity via nuclear fusion is one step closer. Just before Chinese New Year, researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Hefei heated hydrogen gas to about 50 million degrees Celsius and maintained this temperature for 102 seconds. At such temperatures gas turns into plasma and needs to be held away from Read more…

Super E. coli bacteria for possible use in biofuels

Biofuel opportunity Chinese scientists have developed a novel way to create E. coli ‘super bacteria’, for possible use in biofuels. Basically, they sped up the evolution of Escherichia coli bacteria by inserting a special mutator protein into the bacteria, combined with repeatedly heating the bacteria samples to near death. The result were highly thermotolerant strains within Read more…
