In 2015, there were 359,000 invention patents granted in China. 263,000 were for domestic patent applications, the other 96,000 were of foreign origin.
The amount of domestic granted patents in 2015 was a huge 100,000 increase from 2014. This surge can also be observed in the chart below, where every province has significantly increased numbers of granted patents. Jiangsu province is topping the list with an 80 percent increase from 2014 to 2015.
The Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, consisting of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai, accounts for 30 percent of all newly granted domestic invention patents in China. Making this zone currently the most interesting patent region in China.
